Bus Ticketing system at present in places like India is poor. It is difficult for the Bus Conductor to go to all the passengers and give exact change for all of them. So, We propose a Bus Ticketing System that overcomes all the hurdles. I will explain it with Singara Chennai Card.
Singara Chennai Card and App
Singara Chennai Card is a Chennai City Metro Debit Card through which you can buy tickets in all places like Bus, Trains, and Metro Trains. Its use can even be extended to other places in the city like Shopping Malls in the Metro Train Stations, zoos, parks, and other places maintained by Chennai Greater Corporation. Singara Chennai App is also available for convenience. It is similar to Singara Chennai Card. But in App form in Smart Phones. The App should be available in local languages too.
Information in Singara Chennai App
When you buy a Singara Chennai Card, you have to activate it in Singara Chennai App, or places where you buy the Singara Chennai Card. Your Singara Chennai Card and App will have your Aadhaar number, Phone Number, and Present Photograph (which must be updated every year). No one can borrow anyone else' Singara Chennai Card or Steal it. Giving a missed call from the registered Phone number to a customer care number in Singara Chennai Card or the App will lock the Card immediately. It can be re-activated only by visiting the issuing place in person.
Minimum Balance in Singara Chennai Card and Fine
You have to maintain a minimum balance of Rs.1000 in Singara Chennai Card. You can spend up to Rs.1000 on the Card, below which it won't allow you to debit. For Example. You have Rs. 1025 on your card. If you buy tickets for Rs.20 Singara Chennai Card will allow you to buy. But if you buy a ticket worth Rs.30, Singara Chennai App and Card won't allow you to buy tickets because it will go below the minimum amount of Rs.1000. The minimum amount will be utilized to put a fine for people who travel by bus without tickets. Before boarding a bus, all the passengers should show Singara Chennai Card to the Bus Conductor. If the minimum balance is breached, i.e. a passenger travels a distance so that the amount becomes less than Rs.1000, the conductor will simply put a fine of Rs.1000 and confiscate the card. The passenger has to buy a new Singara Chennai Card by again putting money in the new card. He cannot use the old card and travel without paying for tickets. We can even give a warning to the passenger that the balance is low, by charging double the fare for a balance below Rs.2000 so that the passenger cannot claim to have boarded the bus unaware of the minimum balance.
Buy tickets through Singara Chennai Card
When you enter the bus, give your Singara Chennai Card to your Bus Conductor and tell him your destination. He will insert or tap your card in his device, enter the destination, and give you the ticket. There is no PIN for small amounts and places like buses, Trains, or Metro Trains. If you spend a large amount, you need to enter the PIN in places like Shopping Malls. If you buy tickets through Singara Chennai Card, you will have to pay 20% extra amount than if you buy through Singara Chennai App. The details of how to buy through Singara Chennai App are given below.
Steps to buy tickets in Singara Chennai App
Step 1: Switch on the Singara Chennai App, when you wait at your bus stop. It will help you to find Buses through the Bus Tracking system too. Choose your destination, if more than one, add it to your favorites so that you can immediately choose one among them. It will be helpful for routine daily bus travelers on a particular route to go to their workplace.
Step 2: When your bus comes, go inside the bus and enter the Bus Code displayed inside the bus, which will be displayed on the top sidebar all along the length of the bus.
Step 3: Then enter your destination or choose the destination from your favorites. Your ticket will be issued and the amount debited from your Singara Chennai App.
Color and QR Code in Tickets
For every trip between the starting and end point of a bus, there will be different color codes. For example. if E18 travels from the starting point Guduvanchery to the ending point Broadway in the morning, it will have a color code say yellow. Next time it travels in the morning or evening or the next day, it will have a different color code say green. The color code changes randomly. No one can predict the color code. The color code will be embedded in the QR code of every ticket issued to the passenger. When the conductor scans the QR Code, it will display the bus number and the passenger's starting and end point, for which he bought the ticket. So, whenever a ticket inspector comes to check a bus, he simply needs to scan the ticket, and it will automatically show a green or red color, based on the GPS and the Bus Code. Green means the passenger's ticket is valid because he is in a place between the starting and end points for which he bought his ticket. Red means an invalid ticket.
One Time Trip Number (OTTN)
We can give a One Time Trip Number (OTTN) for every ticket a passenger buys for his travel from point A to B. We can call it OTP for the passenger's convenience. The passenger can simply quote the OTTN to the Conductor who is sitting far away. He can feed the OTTN in his device and ticket details will be displayed. The passenger's picture, gender, and age will be displayed along with the source and destination. The conductor can use it to verify the passenger from his seat. This feature will be helpful in A/C Buses and crowded buses during peak time.
Details in the Ticket
Every ticket either issued by the Conductor or from Singara Chennai App, will have these details. QR Code, Color Code, Source and Destination of the Passenger, OTTN, Bus Code.
Camera in the Bus and AI application
There will be cameras in all the Buses traveling in Metero Politan and Cosmo Politan Cities, along with GPS (Global Positioning System). It will be fed to the AI. The AI will tell in real time how many passengers are presently on the bus. This along with the tickets bought in the bus will inform the conductor how many people have not bought tickets. The conductor has to make sure almost all of them have bought tickets. If the discrepancy increases consistently, he will be fined. If he maintains a low discrepancy, he will be given incentives.
